Clean Energy Solutions

We, the people of Northeast Iowa, value this area because it is a relatively clean and safe place to raise our children. We value the fact that our local utilities are beginning to invest in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and improve our air quality.

We feel that the location of a large new coal-fired power plant in Waterloo, selling its power out of state, has risks that outweigh the benefits and is not in keeping with what we value about living in Northeast Iowa.

We have questions about the effects that the power plant will have on the health of our children and our communities. We have questions about the impact on water quality, and on the soil of those who farm. We are concerned about global warming.

We would prefer the economic benefits of energy efficiency and a cleaner way to produce power.
